The Didcot 5 race is just a month away (2nd July)!!
We need LOTS of volunteers to help run the event, we need marshalls, help with the water station, the start/finish area etc.
This is the club's premier event and without volunteers it wouldn't be possible. So if you are free and able to give a few hours on the morning of 2nd July to help with the race please email John Talbot with your name, email address and contact number to: firstname.lastname@example.org
A bbq will be provided for post race, family members are welcome too.
The latest Club Championship results, including the Wallingford 10k have been emailed to all members and posted on the Facebook page,
Current leaders are
Eileen Naughton Senior Female
Miranda Habermel Veteran Female
Daniel Ling Senior Male
Noel Frances & Mark Harvey Veteran Male
Noel and Mark are both on 11 points but Noel has run 1 less race.
The next race is Chiltern Chase on 4th June. (which is the day after the Social run so maybe stick to the 5 miles if you are going to be running the
Chiltern Chase on the Sunday)
Good Luck to all those taking part.
Endure 24 is on the weekend of the 10th-11th June and we have a number ofrunners taking part including Geoff who is running solo again this year.
Good Luck to all those taking part in Endure 24 and I will be publishing some the results of Endure as well for all those who are interested.
Well done to all at yesterdays Championship race Wallingford Thames run 10km, Sian was 1st Lady and Tina Came in 2nd Lady. Congratulations to you both and well done to everyone who ran an excellent race. PB' for some and a great effort from the rest. A great turn out of Didcot Runners to show support for our local running club.
Next Championship race is Chiltern Chase 10km on 4th June, make sure you sign up http://www.chilternchase.org.uk
Also the Cumnor Legion 5k is being held on the 17th June and is the second of the Championship 5k races this year. It’s a good distance for those who haven’t run a race before and is good for the more experienced runners who normally go for the longer distances as you need the run the race differently to the longer distances.
The race is filling up quickly so now is the time to book it…
Reminder: Training at The Clumps tonight.
If you are heading from Didcot to the Clumps, go passed the main public car park on your right and head slightly downhill towards the village. As you head down the hill, the Earth Trust Car Park is on the right at the Barn. The gate will be open for you to use. Go through the gate and bear left and you will see a oval carpark outside the Barn. There are no toilet facilities, as as Lisa reminded you yesterday, bring some water and/or inhaler (if you use one). Have Fun.
Dates for your diary...
Saturday 3rd June, 10am. Social Thames Run.
Saturday 8th July, 3pm, The Didcot Runners Bake Off
Saturday 19th August, 12pm. Punting in Oxford. (sorry, no punting emoji).
Read on for further info, but please take note of these dates and keep an eye on this page for updates.
Social Thames Run. A casual group run along the Thames path ending with lunch at the Waterfront Cafe, Benson. There will be multiple distances available, ranging from 5 to 15 miles.
Bake Off. This will be a chance for us to get competitive without running, whilst showing off some of our artistic flair. Basically an excuse to eat lots of cake. This will be held at the Plough Inn, Long Wittenham which has a lovely long garden and should provide the perfect setting. There will be a prize for the best cake voted by you. Bring the family along too.
Punting. This could be fun.... If you haven't tried punting before, I hightly recommend it. It's a fun technique to learn. Starting from Magdalen Bridge, Oxford, this is a great section of the river Cherwell. We can go out for 1 or 2 hours, costing around £5 each for 1 hour or £10 each for 2 hours (TBC). We are also able to take food and drink aboard.
It'd be nice to see some initial feedback on these events. Just to get an idea of attendance.
Thanks and well done to London Marathon runners... Great stuff!
Any runners taking part in the London Marathon are invited to come to the Football Club at 10:30am on Saturday 15th April. A photographer will be there to meet you and take a group photo, please wear what you will be wearing on Race Day. If you are unable to make it, please email Secretary@didcotrunners.org.uk with your phone number and the journalist, Georgina will call you to interview you, so you can get a mention in the article.
