Beginners - same time, same place next week

A big welcome to all the beginners that came to the first session last night, it was a really great turn out and we hoped you all enjoyed the session (and that you don't ache too much this morning).  Everyone put in a brilliant effort on the 'magic mile'.

If you couldn't make it for the first week, don't worry, print off the form and bring it along with you to the next session and let the run leaders know you will be coming.

The first step is always the hardest and that's the one that gets you out of the door. Well done to you all. See you all next week.

Tail Runner changes as of November '16

The tail runners doddle poll is still in operation and can be found pinned to the facebook group page.

As a committee, we have discussed the relevance for a tail runner over a number of committee meetings that we hold each month and as a result felt that it isn't useful as they do not run the full route, therefore are not in a position to help out with any first aid equipment that they carry around with them and can not guarantee runners safe return from the route.
This was getting increasingly difficult to conjure up volunteers to help without the threat of over-nagging on a weekly basis.

We discussed that what we need is for the tail runner to run the full route to benefit the club and its members.

The committee will not actively pursue people to tail run anymore, the doodle poll will be in action until the end of October as a trail period and then we will review it at a later date.

If anyone is unhappy with this please approach a member of the committee and your views will be discussed at the next committee meeting in October, alternatively if you have any other suggestions then please speak to one of us.

We are here to help you run the club how you would like it, we are here to listen to you. If you would like to hold an ordinary meeting, please contact a member of the committe and we wil be happy to discuss your view and ideas.

I am a local sports massage therapist, based mainly from the UTC Oxfordshire Sports centre in Didcot. I have recently moved to this location but have been working as a massage therapist for the last 11 years. As a local resident I am keen to support the local sports clubs and would like to offer a £5 discount on initial massage treatments for members of local clubs. I have worked with people from a range of sporting backgrounds, from athletics to more contact based sports such as rugby, and the treatment room that I work from is spacious enough to allow for demonstrations of stretches and exercises to help prevent further injury and promote self-care – something I am very keen to encourage for all clients.

Winter routes added to the calender...

Both routes you are able to shorten or lengthen to suit your running ability. If any member has any other routes they would like to share please speak to a member of the committee. Head torches needed for some routes, so please read notes.

The route starts off flat and then gently undulates along footpaths, bridleways, and tracks up onto the Ridgeway National Path from where you can enjoy some stunning views of the rolling Oxfordshire countryside.

Altogether a better way to spend a Bank Holiday Monday and a great showing from Didcot Runners, click the lik to view results

Championship Race at Headington 5 Mile race

A great turn out for the Didcot Runners and another club came up to us to thank us for our own race, "we love your 5 mile race, its the best".

It started with a drizzly morning, but that soon cleared up for the run itself, which was a shame. A brief briefing and the gun was fired, a few long straights and then we were on our way home. A couple of club runners running a PB and some chasing other competitors and pacing them around the course. Well done to everyone that showed up and ran and also the supporters that cheered us on. A lovely meal post race at The Fishes, North Hinkey for refuelling and  some social chats about Pigeon Street and the Joy of Painting.

Happy Bank Holiday Weekend and good luck with the Harwell Half Marathon to all our runners participating tomorrow.

Ridgeway Challenge- 86 miles

From Lewis Cousins: A HUGE thank you to everyone that helped out at Goring and Bury Down tonight. It was another successful event expertly handled by Didcot Runners (and friends).  We certainly couldn't do this without your support and it's greatly appreciated. Time to catch some zzzz's!

From Andrew Casey Checkpoint 5 (Half way) of the 86 mile Ridgeway Challenge. A fantastic effort to even sign up to let alone get to this point and beyond. Supplying care, attention and rice pudding, the Didcot Runners and Compton Harrier did superbly. At that point in a challenge, a simple bowl of hot food and a tea is the best thing in the world. Well done everyone and especially Ben, Dan and all the other competitors for taking part.
